What About Flights?
All campers will meet up at hub cities in the US (most likely Texas and Miami) and we will fly to and from Costa Rica as groups. Adult facilitators will be on every flight. We are negotiating special group rates which will be available to those with deposits in place by April 15th. Be prepared to fly out early on the 26th and return home the evening of Aug 2nd.
How Do We Get Around?
When we are not hiking, riding horses, swimming, caving or boating, we travel to activities in a private bus with a professional driver. The drive to Fortuna from the airport is 3 hours. Rafting is 2 hours from where we are staying. All other activities are within 20 minutes of La Fortuna or on the property where we will be staying. How does it get better than that?
How Do I Sign Up?
To enroll simply fill out the registration form online at www.theaccesscamps.com/wejrh.kj, accompanied by a $500 deposit. When we receive your deposit, we will contact you to confirm your enrollment and also send you a packet of information that includes: activities questionnaire, medical form, activity waiver, packing list & final invoice. Final payment is due May 15th.
Do I Need a Passport?
Yes! If you do not already have a passport, allow 6-8 weeks for the most ease with this process. It is possible to obtain a passport in less time if necessary, though it may cost more.
Do I Need Any Shots?
You are not required to get any shots, immunizations, or medications to travel to Costa Rica. The Center for Disease Control recommends that travelers to Costa Rica receive immunizations for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Rabies, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, and boosters for tetanus-diphtheria and measles, as needed. We suggest you research what works for you.
Is Costa Rica Safe?
Known as the Switzerland of the Americas, Costa Rica has been a stable democracy for over 150 years as well as hosting a strong economy with a solid middle class. Tourism is a leading industry in the country’s economy welcoming hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors each year.
Do you have insurance?
Yes! The Access Camps are fully insured, including full liability insurance.
What is the weather going to be like?
Very hard to predict! Costa Rica as a whole generally has a clear ‘rainy season’ and ‘dry season’. However, over the past several years, this distinction has been less and less reliable. Because we are going to the rainforest, there must be rain. This usually happens mostly at night or for shorter periods in the mornings or afternoons. Though it is rare to cancel activities due to rainy weather, both rafting and caving rely on the rivers being at safe levels. Be prepared for hiking, walking, and playing in the rain. The temperature is usually quite warm and humid, but not unbearably so (80s and 90s). The nighttime temperature can get down to 60°F. |
